Where to buy Tango clothing?
Buenos Aires
In Buenos Aires, there are many amazing places to buy tango clothing in San Telmo, in Palermo in Recoleta and sometimes at Milongas. However for the personal touch, I would suggest that you visit a studio or a store in person to discover the gems! Almost always, not all styles or types of clothes are represented on a website.
Then one must book an appointment to visit these studios, by calling them on whatsapp, remembering you are in Buenos Aires, not everything runs on standard time.
At these clothing studios, the spaces can range from very intimate spaces in an apartment building to a large retail store. The staff at these spaces are usually bilingual and are very helpful and love showing you tango clothing. In my experience I have found speaking bit of Spanish in Buenos Aires, goes a long way to creating cultural community and opens many doors.
Upon entering, you will find a rack of ready made tango clothing including dresses, skirts and tops. Most of these places will do alterations at no charge.
Now, The fun really begins. When looking at all the beautiful flowing fabrics offered in the studio, you start daydreaming up a new tango outfit, now that is magic. A new dress with a tail, a skirt with a short top. Tango clothing offers many possibilities, but is only limited by your imagination, wallet and the time it take to create your new tango clothing.

In the past, with friends visiting, we went to Maria’s apartment which at that time was her showroom. Here we saw amazing clothes from lacey embroideries to awesome catsuits. Her beautiful clothing is handmade in her studio where she works with her cat.
The following year, I discovered Maria moved to a retail location on Rodriguez Pena and Sante Fe. In her store, the range and style of clothing runs from lacy camisoles, to open back shirts, skirts of all kinds and dresses too. Currently, Maria is showing shoes from Tellas Argentina Tellas.ar A local shoe maker.
My favorite clothes here are here bodysuits and lacey overtops, skirts and dresses. Usually when the air-conditioning is working in the milonga, It can get very cold and breezy. It makes these overtops the preferred article of clothing keeping us warmer and looking fantastic too.

The end of quarantine, when living in Buenos Aires at the end of the quarantine it was March 2021, Argentina was just starting to open up its doors to the world. I needed a few new pieces as I was tired of what I has after living with those pieces for many years. I found her on Hoy-Milonga. Calling the number I discovered that she was down the street from where I lived. Wahoo. Upon making an appointment a friendship of sorts was made and here we are years later and I still are recommending her clothing to friends and clients.
She now has a beautiful location close to Oblescio and is open most days by appointment.
